Giampaolo Bandini is today considered one of the finest Italian guitarists on the international scene. He regularly appears on the programs of the world’s most prestigious festivals — from Europe to the United States, from Africa to Asia and South America — including performances at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano, Saint Petersburg Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall in New York, International Center for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the Arts Center in Seoul, and IRCAM in Paris.
He has toured in more than 50 countries, both as a soloist and with major international orchestras such as the Baden-Baden Philharmonic (Germany), Czech Chamber Soloists Brno (Czech Republic), Moscow Virtuosi (Russia), Round Top Chamber Orchestra and Brazos Valley Symphony (USA), Asian-European Symphony Orchestra (Korea), Animae Chamber Orchestra (Hungary), Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra (Lithuania), and many others.
He collaborates regularly with renowned artists such as Salvatore Accardo, Avi Avital, Massimo Quarta, Danilo Rossi, Corrado Giuffredi, Cesare Chiacchiaretta, Enrico Bronzi, Sonia Ganassi, Francesco Manara, Simonide Braconi, Massimo Polidori, Andrea Oliva, Francesco Di Rosa, Alberto Miodini, Quartetto Adorno, Quartetto Nous, as well as Elio (of Elio e le Storie Tese), Monica Guerritore, Sergio Rubini, Maddalena Crippa, Marco Baliani or Amanda Sandrelli.
He was awarded the prestigious “Chitarra d’oro” by the Comitato Scientifico del Convegno di Alessandria.
Giampaolo Bandini has recorded more than 15 CDs and has been a Decca artist since 2018, releasing Escualo, Intimate Paganini, and Tango y Folia. In 2021, he released on the same label a monographic album dedicated to Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, featuring the complete chamber music with guitar by the Florentine master. In 2017, the legendary Cuban composer Leo Brouwer dedicated Folias a través de los siglos to the duo Giampaolo Bandini – Cesare Chiacchiaretta, premiered at the Hong Kong Arts Festival.
He holds the chair of guitar at the Istituto Musicale di Alta Formazione Luigi Boccherini in Lucca. He also teaches in the second-level Master’s program at the Conservatorio Arrigo Boito in Parma and gives masterclasses all over the world.
