
The Russian oboist Leonid Surkov was born in 2000 in Moscow. He began his musical training at the age of seven and continued his studies at the Gnessin School of Music in Moscow under Denis Osver. Since 2019, he has studied at the Berlin University of the Arts in the class of Washington Barella.
During his studies, Leonid Surkov won several prizes at international music competitions, including the 73rd ARD Music Competition in Munich, the 13th International Oboe Competition of Japan, and the Muri Competition.
He has performed as a guest musician with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Komische Oper Berlin Orchestra, the State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia, and the PerSimfAns Orchestra. During the 2022/23 and 2023/24 concert seasons, Leonid was a member of the orchestral academy of the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra in Hamburg. Since the 2024/25 concert season, Leonid has been principal oboist with the Musikkollegium Winterthur.
As a member of the wind quartet “JuVentus Berlin,” founded in 2021, he has also been active in the field of chamber music. The members of this ensemble are scholarship holders of the “Yehudi Menuhin Live Music Now München” foundation.
